Mariners drop a 1-0 decision to Montmorency in the CCAA Quarterfinals
SQUAMISH, BC - Gold medal hopes for the Mariners have been dashed following a tight 1-0 loss to the Montmorency Nomades at the 2024 CCAA Women's Soccer National Championship.
The Mariners held the majority of possession and pressure through the first 15 minutes, but the Nomades found their footing and equaled the VIU pressure for the rest of the half. Montmorency's leading scorer, Jade Béchette, scored off a header from a perfect free kick to give the Nomades the lead two minutes before the end of the first half.
The Mariners brought in fresh legs midway through the second half but were unable to break through a smothering Nomades defensive line.

VIU's Asuka Okabe, who had a strong game in the midfield, was named VIU's player of the game. Kaiden Thorpe had little chance on the winning goal but was otherwise solid in the VIU net.
The Mariners move to the bronze bracket and will play again on Thursday, November 7 at 10 a.m. against Seneca Polytechnic (OCAA champion) or Brandon University (MCAC champion).
