Preview: Mariners Hit the Road to Battle the Falcons
BURNABY, B.C. - VIU Mariners men's soccer starts a month-long stretch of road games on the 2022 PACWEST schedule with a match against the Langara Falcons.
VIU (1-0-1) vs Langara (0-0-1)
While the Mariners played the Capilano Blues to two ties in the opening weekend of the season, VIU was awarded a 1-0 forfeit win for the Saturday matchup as the Blues were ruled to have used an ineligible player. The Falcons have only played one game so far--a 1-1 tie with Douglas--after a planned Sunday game was cancelled due to smoke levels in the Lower Mainland.

NET GAINS
Fourth-year keeper Kevin Picard (Chilliwack, BC) played both VIU games on opening weekend and allowed three goals over the weekend. Falcons goalkeeper Blake Charlesworth (White Rock, BC) allowed 1 goal in his start versus Douglas.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
In 2021, VIU earned a 2-1 win, a 1-1 tie, and a 3-0 loss versus Langara.

VIU's Vasilis Bagiopoulos has two goals on the season--the only multiple-goal scorer early in the PACWEST men's soccer season--and Michael Heppelle was lauded by coach Kevin Lindo for impacting the offensive and defensive sides of the game in Week #1. Yuto Kimera scored the Falcons goal in their first game.
