Perennial PACWEST powerhouse Mariners open 2024-25 vs Okanagan College
NANAIMO, B.C. - In October, VIU Mariners men's basketball will take home court to begin a battle towards consecutive conference championships.
The PACWEST (Pacific Western Athletic Association) 2024-25 men's basketball schedule, released today, features the defending PACWEST champion Mariners opening up the season at the VIU Gym versus the Okanagan College Coyotes (Kelowna, B.C.). These games are scheduled for Friday, October 18 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, October 19 at 1 p.m.
The PACWEST basketball season consists of 24 games, split evenly between home and road games between VIU and Douglas College, Capilano University, Camosun College, Columbia Bible College, Langara College, and Okanagan College.
Home Games
- October 18 & 19 vs. Okanagan College
- October 25 & 26 vs. Columbia Bible College
- November 8 & 9 vs. Douglas College
- November 29 & 30 vs. Langara College
- January 17 & 18 vs. Camosun College (*Island Rivalry)
- February 7 & 8 vs. Capilano University (*Seniors / Alumni Days)
Road Games
- November 15 & 16 at Camosun College
- November 22 & 23 at Capilano University
- January 10 & 11 at Columbia Bible College
- January 24 & 25 at Okanagan College
- January 31 & February 1 at Douglas College
- February 21 & 22 at Langara College
The PACWEST also announced that Columbia Bible College will host the 2024-25 PACWEST Basketball Championships, February 27-March 1, in Abbotsford, B.C. This year's conference champion qualifies for the 2025 CCAA Men's Basketball National Championship, hosted by Vanier College in Saint-Laurent, Montreal, QC, March 12-15. The PACWEST does not hold a wildcard berth this season.
The Mariners qualified for last year's CCAA national championship and finished in seventh place. The team also competed in the three previous national tournaments, earning gold in 2019, bronze in 2023, and a fourth-place finish in 2022. (There were no CCAA tournaments in 2020 or 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.)
Schedule Notes
- Each team will play the other teams four times: twice at home and twice on the road.
- Home games: except for the home opening weekend, all Friday games begin at 8 p.m. and all Saturday games begin at 3 p.m. Women's games will precede the men's games at 6 p.m. on Fridays and 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
- All games will be streamed live via SportsCanada.tv through each athletic department's YouTube page.
