VIU Soccer Athletes of the Week - September 21-22
Brooke Ingram and Louis Goldbrunner earn recognition in Week #3
Congratulations to Brooke Ingram and Louis Goldbrunner: VIU soccer athletes of the week!
The Mariners remained undefeated on the season after Week #3 with Brooke stepping up to help VIU earn four points on the road.
After entering VIU's game at Capilano midway through the second half, she allowed one goal on a top-class Capilano shot but held the Blues the rest of the way, allowing the Mariners to come back and earn a 1-1 tie. On Sunday, she earned a shutout in her first PACWEST start, showing excellent control in tracking down Langara crosses and through-balls.
"She stepped into the [Capilano] game in a tough circumstance and didn't look back," head coach Bobbie Taylor said. "Brooke played with poise and made smart decisions in both games along with key saves to keep us in the games."
Goldbrunner demonstrated why he is a key piece of the VIU lineup as the Mariners earned two huge wins on the road in Week #3 against Capilano and Langara to keep pace in the conference standings. His contributions outside of the stat sheets helped the Mariners earn two shutouts and register their biggest goal scoring output of season.
Offensively, "Louis was central to building up attacks and helped us dictate the tempo when needed," head coach Kevin Lindo said. "Defensively, he was a rock and showed impressive leadership throughout," which was especially vital in a slippery rain-soaked Sunday matchup at Langara.
Both Brooke and Louis were also named PACWEST conference soccer athletes of the week.
