VIU Mariners women's volleyball will drive for a fifth consecutive national championship as hosts of the 2023 CCAA Women's Volleyball National Championship
NANAIMO - The VIU Mariners women's volleyball program has won the last four Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) National Championships. In 2023, the team is guaranteed to compete for a fifth consecutive championship--back on home court.
The CCAA has announced that Vancouver Island University and the Mariners will host the 2023 CCAA Women's Volleyball National Championship, March 8-11. VIU last hosted the women's volleyball national tournament in 2012 and is fresh off of hosting the CCAA Women's Basketball National Champioship in March, 2022.
In a media release from the CCAA, Danielle Hyde, Director of Athletics & Recreation at VIU, said "[w]e believe we have demonstrated our ability to host an exceptional event, and we also want the opportunity to host another CCAA Championship as our Women's Volleyball program goes on their 'drive for five'."

Since 1978, only RSEQ schools Cégep de Sherbrooke and Cégep Garneau have also managed to win four CCAA women's volleyball national championships in a row, but no team as accomplished a five-peat.
"The CCAA is thrilled to have the opportunity to return to Nanaimo and the reigning four-time national champion Mariners aren't your average hosts," said Beth Clark, CCAA Women's Volleyball Convenor. "Danielle and her team at VIU will also be focused on delivering an athlete-centered championship that will be memorable for all participants."
The tournament will feature eight teams from across Canada: conference champions from the PACWEST, Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC), Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC), Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA), Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ), and Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) as well as a wildcard team and the host Mariners.
