Mariners open up the 2023 CCAA Men's Soccer National Championship in Windsor, Ontario against the Conestoga Condors
WINDSOR, ON - The conduit towards a national championship starts with the Condors.
VIU Mariners men's soccer, the PACWEST wildcard representative, kicks off the 2023 CCAA Men's Soccer National Championship with a quarterfinal matchup against the Conestoga Condors (Kitchener, ON). Game time is 10 a.m. ET (7 a.m. Pacific) on Wednesday, November 8.
The national tournament is hosted by St. Clair College in Windsor, Ontario. All games are hosted at Acumen Stadium at the St. Clair Sportspark. The other participating teams are the Douglas Royals (PACWEST champion), Keyano Huskies (ACAC champion), Brandon Bobcats (MCAC champion), Aigles D'Ahuntsic (RSEQ champion), UKC Blue Devils (ACAA champion), and the host St. Clair Saints.
The Mariners, the third seed in the PACWEST, upset the Langara Falcons with a 1-0 win in the conference semifinal. VIU's strong play continued in the final against the Douglas Royals as they took the top-ranked team to overtime before Douglas prevailed 5-4 in penalty kicks.
The OCAA champion and CCAA #4-ranked Condors had an outstanding season and will be a tough matchup. They were a perfect 10-0 in regular season play and 4-0 in provincial playoffs. The Condors defeated the Humber Hawks 3-0 in the Ontario final to qualify for the national tournament.

At the CCAA tournament banquet, VIU's Travis Brown (far left) was recognized as one of 15 All-Canadians from across Canada.
