VIU Mariners settled for silver after a 97-89 loss to Douglas Royals in the PACWEST Gold medal game.
Despite the outcome both teams are still heading to the CCAA national championship in two weeks hosted at Humber College in Toronto.
Saturday night the Mariners pushed the top seeded Royals shooting 42% from the field led by Tyus Barfoot and his game high 28 points scoring inside, but also knocking down four-three pointers and grabbing 12 rebounds.
Cameron Gay was strong with 22 points and Landon Radliff finished with 18.
The Mariners will head to Humber with a wildcard seed and get an opportunity to defend their national crown.
