Saturday, VIU 0 CAP 1
The Mariners had some excellent chances in the first half and stuck to our style of play.
"Capilano took their chance and worked hard to press us.
Very disappointing result however to spoil our unbeaten record, but I think we needed this to learn and reflect at this crucial time of the season." Comments Kevin Lindo
Sunday, VIU 2 DOUG 0
Mariners played a fantastic game of soccer vs Douglas on Sunday, when they really needed it.
Playing through the thirds consistently and dominating the play. A great response after the loss to Cap the previous day.
"The players are showing resilience and key decision making qualities
Very happy with the performance and we can't wait for provincials next week!" Comments Lindo
MEN'S SOCCER
Saturday, VIU 3 Capilano 0
The Mariners clinched the league title with an excellent display and well earned victory with Hector Valdez scoring off a corner kick in the 35th minute.
Michael Heppelle scored on a header just on the stroke of half time to give VIU a two goal lead.
Michael then added the third VIU goal in the 55th minute on a superb chip from 40 yards out which left the Capilano keeper with little chance.
"It was an excellent result for our group and our guys showed their togetherness and willingness to battle for each other.
A nice team performance for us." Says Larry Stefanek
Sunday, Douglas 2 VIU 0
"I thought it was a very strange game today, we started well, controllled the first half and creating many scoring chances.
Unfortunately we could not capitalize on any of our chances and conceded two goals later in the game. " comments Larry
The Mariners outshot Douglas and controlled the second half with many new players in the game off the bench.
"Today was a good challenge for some of our players and the result did not go our way.
